The City of Coquitlam hires over 250 temporary election staff to help deliver election services at our advance voting opportunities and on general voting day.

We will be recruiting for the following positions:

All election workers will be scheduled to work on General Voting Day, Saturday, October 17, and may work during Advance Voting (October 5, 7, 8, 10, 13, and 15).

Requirements

  • Legally entitled to work in British Columbia 
  • Attendance at a mandatory training session in September is required (dates and times to be provided upon hiring).  A flat rate of $50.00 will be paid for attending one training session.
  • Arrive at assigned voting place no later than 7 a.m., remain at the voting place following the close of the polls at 8 p.m., assist with the packing of the voting tabulator and supplies, and assist with cleaning the voting place.
  • The ideal candidate will have previous experience, knowledge and the skills required to process and register electors on voting day.  
  • Preference will be given to Coquitlam residents, and/ or persons with previous municipal election experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 16 years of age 
  • Strong written and verbal English Language competence
  • Strong understanding of local election procedures
  • Ability to be a non-partisan overseer of the election
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain tactful, courteous, and patient during busy periods 
  • Ability to complete data entry of voter information using voting software
  • Punctual and reliable

Job-specific experience and skills

  • Previous experience as an Election Official is an asset
  • Competence in a second language is an asset
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent is an asset
  • Strong problem-solving ability required
  • Conflict management and de-escalation experience in a client service environment is an asset
