The Finance and Legal Department provides financial and legal leadership to support City operations, service delivery and long-term planning. Finance is responsible for the stewardship of the City’s financial resources and for ensuring sound financial management across the organization while Legal provides legal advice and oversight to support Council, the organization and the achievement of corporate priorities.
Finance
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the City’s operating, utility and capital budgets
- Preparing the annual Five-Year Financial Plan
- Collecting and administering City revenues, including property taxes and utility charges
- Providing financial analysis and budgeting support for corporate-wide initiatives
- Treasury functions including managing payments and the City’s investment and debt portfolios
- Delivering financial reporting and accounting services
- Administering payroll
- Providing procurement services for the City
Legal Services
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing legal advice and support to Council and the City
- Overseeing and managing all legal matters involving the City
- Supporting the City’s business plan priorities and corporate objectives
Business and Innovation Services
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing policies and supporting strategic and business planning
- Leading various internal reviews and innovation projects to streamline and enhance services
