Garbage & Recycling

Waste Collection During the COVID-19 Outbreak

Garbage and green waste collection services are operating normally at this time; however, for the safety of our contractors’ workers, Coquitlam residents are asked to continue separating their waste properly. All garbage and organic materials must be put in their designated carts. NOTE: If you or a member of your household is sick, double-bag items such as tissues, wipes, gloves, and masks and place in your Garbage Cart. For more details about waste collection and management during COVID-19, visit our updates on Coronavirus page.

Important Update - November 22, 2021

Recycle BC is suspending curbside and multi-family glass recycling collection.

Due to the unprecedented flooding event experienced in southern B.C., Recycle BC is making a temporary change to collection of some materials due to compromised transportation corridors, road closures and Recycle BC’s primary glass processing facility being flooded. There will be a temporary suspension to the collection of:

  • Non-deposit glass bottles and jars and foam packaging (white and coloured) from Recycle BC depots; and
  • Curbside and multi-family glass bottles and jars.

Recycle BC is requesting residents hold onto these material until collection resumes.

Recycle BC will continue to collect and receive paper, cardboard, containers and soft plastics, and will be working with partners to ensure that all other recyclables are handled as effectively as possible during this emergency.

Recycling collection in the City of Coquitlam is managed by Recycle BC. For updated information regarding this service disruption, please visit Recycle BC’s website at recyclebc.ca/coquitlam.
