The number of wildfires in British Columbia over the past several years, along with hurricanes and storms around the world causing many people to be evacuated or displaced from their homes, demonstrates how important it is to be prepared. Emergencies and disasters can and do occur anywhere, at any time. Disasters that affect you could be anything from an earthquake, to a flood, to a severe winter storm.
You and your family should be able to take care of your basic needs for at least 72 hours after a disaster, as help may not be able to get to you. Having the resources to be self-sufficient for 72 hours allows first responders to respond to the most critical needs first, and helps our community recover more quickly from an emergency.
