Coquitlam believes that public art and cultural recognition contributes to Coquitlam’s identity as a diverse community with a vibrant cultural scene. As a result in 2011, a Public Art Policy and Program Plan (PDF) was created.
The City cares for two cultural recognition installations, located at Mundy Park Pool. The purpose of this initiative is to recognize the enduring connection between the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation and the lands on which the City of Coquitlam is located. These pieces were created in partnership between the City and the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation.
The City cares for over 35 works of public art pieces throughout the City. Some of these pieces have been created as a part of a larger project, such as the expansion of the Evergreen Extension of the Skytrain in 2014 or the commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Coquitlam in 2016.
