  • Burke Mountain Village (PDF) will be the commercial and social hub of northeast Coquitlam (Burke Mountain). It is envisioned to include a grocery store and other supporting retail stores and commercial services, a civic recreation complex, an urban plaza and park, and apartment and townhouse residential housing.

  • The City is the owner of the Village lands will be responsible for delivering the road infrastructure, parks, and new community centre. The development of the residential and commercial lands will be influenced by the City, but ultimately sold to private developers through public tender (RFO).     • July 2013 - Council adopted the Partington Creek Neighbourhood Plan (PCNP), which included an implementation strategy to complete a Master Development Plan for the Neighbourhood Centre.
    • Spring 2014 - Development of the Partington Creek Neighbourhood Centre Master Plan (PDF)
    • September 2015 - Public consultation on the PCNC Master Plan
    • November 2015 - Report to Council (PDF) sharing feedback of public consultation
    • July 2017 - Public Hearing and OCP Amendment Bylaw adopted which:
      • Establishes the "neighbourhood centre" to reflect the objectives of the PCNP
      • Adopts policies to guide development within the PCNC
      • Establishes Development Permit Guidelines to guide the form and character of future development within the PCNC
    • July 2017 - PCNC Master Plan adopted by Council (PDF)
    • 2017 to Present: The City continues with the development planning of the Village, including preparing for the community centre and other public amenities.

  • Through the public consultation process, residents expressed a strong desire for a neighbourhood centre that serves many of the daily shopping and service needs of the community, with neighbourhood-serving retail and services such as a grocery store.

    As property owner, the City has a vital interest in achieving this desired result. The goal is to provide a unique shopping experience with a mix of retail and services that serve local residents.

  • The City’s Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) Master Plan has identified a community centre as an important asset in Northeast Coquitlam, to be developed in the future.

  • The City will now take the steps necessary to implement the PCNC Master Plan including:

    • Development Phasing Strategy - To determine how and when parcels will be released for sale. This is essential to ensuring the right mix of commercial uses that both serves the daily needs of the residents and also allows the businesses to thrive.
    • Detailed design of the community centre and public spaces - Critical to establishing a strong neighbourhood identity that will provide functional and well-designed public spaces.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
