The Parks and Capital Projects Department plans, designs, and delivers parks and civic facilities, leading capital planning, community engagement, GIS analysis and project delivery to support safe, functional and lasting community spaces. The Department also manages and maintains parks to ensure they are safe, functional and provide long-term community value.
Parks
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the City’s parks, public green space, trail network and urban forest
- Maintaining, allocating and managing lifecycle replacement of the City’s outdoor recreation amenities including sport fields, courts and playgrounds.
- Fostering community engagement through the Park Spark and volunteer programs
- Promoting civic pride, community beautification initiatives, nature appreciation and gardening through public education programming
- Creating, installing and managing the Lights at Lafarge display
- Operation of the City’s Robinson Memorial Park Cemetery
Park Planning and Design
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and design of new and upgraded Park infrastructure for the community.
- Develop long-range Park policies and Master Plans in alignment with approved strategies and growth projections.
- Lead strategic planning, community engagement, GIS mapping and analysis for the Parks system
- Identify new Parks for acquisition and expansion to support a growing community.
- Reviewing development applications for park provision and offsite landscape requirements
- Providing GIS mapping and analysis services to the entire department
Major Capital Projects
Key responsibilities include:
- Plan, design and deliver recreation, culture and civic facility infrastructure for the community
- Deliver major park projects through the construction phase
- Collaboratively develop strategic and capital plans for City facilities
- Develop and maintain Project Management tools and best practices for major capital projects
Business and Innovation
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing policies and conducting strategic and business planning
- Driving business improvement and innovation initiatives to enhance service delivery, efficiency and customer experience
- Leading departmental performance management and financial management including budget development, financial analysis, reporting, governance and oversight of park rentals and booking processes
- Providing governance and administrative oversight of cemetery services to ensure respectful and efficient service delivery for the community
